What with all the bashing threads (coughcoughpominshitcoughcough) I've participated in/created...I figured i'd post a positive thread. PSP has inspired me to take a somewhat cheerier view of the team.
I. Freaking. Love. Kennedy.
This kid not only has the moves, speed, vision, passing, and insane playmaking ability...but he works his ASS off, he BANGS, he has passion and heart and motivation. I truly am finding it hard not to love everything he does.
Hell, he even made pominville slightly more tolerable to me, when kennedy was getting a rough treatment in front of the caps goal last night pominville actually (sort of) stuck up for him. Usually we'd see pomindiarrhea just skate away like the little twat he is, but this time he actually shoved someone. IMAGINE! He must realize how important kennedy is as well.
So, I hope everyone now has bubbles and pink hearts floating above their heads, what with all the love i've poured out in one location. Sorry for the mess, here's a towel.
He has no moves. Wtf? Passing is the same as playmaking! He is a grinder and a passer. Nothing else. He isn't a scoring man, and don't make it seem like this. I love his play, he does grind, he can pass, he can get gritty, but you make it seem like he's Ovechkin. He has NO moves. NONE. I never see moves.
I'll address your points as you posted them.
-He has no moves. Well, Lets define "moves". I'll agree he doesnt have that slick and oh-so-successful drag move which connolly and vanek employ. He DOES however have that innate understanding of momentum, positioning and how to move past a defender without needing to do some fancy slight of hand. He knows how to DEKE, he reads defenders. He understands the momentum of the game and flows within it well. I'll submit that it is this innate understanding which allows him to be successful without relying solely on fanciness.
-"Passing is the same as playmaking" Well, in my opinion passing is the last component of playmaking. Playmaking is being able to maintain the puck on your stick, while moving around drawing attention of defenders, making space for your teammates to fill and exploit. Playmaking is knowing where all the players are on the ice and knowing how to take advantage of some small inbalance in a split second. Playmaking is having vision and confidence, and at the very end of doing all this stuff, you dish the perfect pass to make it all able to happen. Passing is the last part.
-"He isn't a scoring man, and don't make it seem like this...You make it seem like he is ovechkin"
No, he hasnt lit the lamp a lot yet. I see a lot of potential in him and think that given different circumstances he'd be lighting the lamp plenty. I'd like to see him given different circumstances.
as far as the ovechkin thing...fucking please. If you want to have an actual discussion with someone dont put ridiculous words in their mouths, it's insulting.
