What with all the bashing threads (coughcoughpominshitcoughcough) I've participated in/created...I figured i'd post a positive thread. PSP has inspired me to take a somewhat cheerier view of the team.

I. Freaking. Love. Kennedy.

This kid not only has the moves, speed, vision, passing, and insane playmaking ability...but he works his ASS off, he BANGS, he has passion and heart and motivation. I truly am finding it hard not to love everything he does.

Hell, he even made pominville slightly more tolerable to me, when kennedy was getting a rough treatment in front of the caps goal last night pominville actually (sort of) stuck up for him. Usually we'd see pomindiarrhea just skate away like the little twat he is, but this time he actually shoved someone. IMAGINE! He must realize how important kennedy is as well.

So, I hope everyone now has bubbles and pink hearts floating above their heads, what with all the love i've poured out in one location. Sorry for the mess, here's a towel.

Wait until he signs his contract extension. He'll become complacent and lazy and fit in perfect with our top 6 and we'll have threads titled "kennebitch, I mean suckedy, er... Whatever"

:P

haha...NO DOUBT. (and stop ripping off my thread titles :) )

Is it REALLY the paycheck that makes these guys complacent? There ARE guys making tons of cash who ALSO give it their fucking all, why does buffalo have such a high percentage of 'paycheck players'? (guys who have checked out after cashing in)

Wait until Kennedy starts to learn how to effectively play offense in the NHL.

Kid is going to be sick nasty.

I love Kennedy, too. Heck, it's gotten to the point where I'm thinking of getting his jersey, already.

One of my favorite parts of his game is that he backs down to nobody. He'll hit somebody against the wall, he'll drive the net, and he'll eagerly participate in scrums around the net.

He's going to get into his fair share of fights in his career.

Is that even it though? I feel like he's being utterly wasted at the moment because he's never put with great linemates. Honestly, if we could make a couple clones of him and give them their own line I bet it would fucking rule all.

I can just hear RJ now:

"Kennedy drops it to kennedy, OH, a wicked cross ice pass to Kennedy who finds Kennedy on the backdoor! GOOOOALLLLLL...Kennedy, from kennedy and kennedy.

Although I really dont know who all he's had playing time with, but it seems he's usually paired with grier, and Hecht? Pommers? Not sure, but i'd like to see a line more tailored around him. He's the only one who really impresses me mentally, he's so good at not telegraphing passes, at making quick moves and crisp clean distributions. I'd love to see him pop in a few more goals, or be setup more often, instead of being the one doing the setting up and having no scorers around.

I kinda like Kennedy with Pominville and Mac. How about Vanek-Kennedy-Pominville? I'd like that.

It might help out Pominville if he was paired with these two.

He has no moves. Wtf? Passing is the same as playmaking! He is a grinder and a passer. Nothing else. He isn't a scoring man, and don't make it seem like this. I love his play, he does grind, he can pass, he can get gritty, but you make it seem like he's Ovechkin. He has NO moves. NONE. I never see moves.

I'd like to see his faceoff % improve before we put him with the top line. Right now he's averaging like 35%. he is working on it with Goose though, so that should greatly improve it. If he is tenatious enough throughout the rest of this season and works hard over the offseason, I'll appreciate him as a center a lot more and would love to see him center our first or sencond line. Hell, I may be pushing it a little, but if he works on strength too, he could be a power forward/playmaker which would be nice to have on a line with our softer forwards like Roy, Pommers, Gerbe, and Connolly.

I'll address your points as you posted them.

-He has no moves. Well, Lets define "moves". I'll agree he doesnt have that slick and oh-so-successful drag move which connolly and vanek employ. He DOES however have that innate understanding of momentum, positioning and how to move past a defender without needing to do some fancy slight of hand. He knows how to DEKE, he reads defenders. He understands the momentum of the game and flows within it well. I'll submit that it is this innate understanding which allows him to be successful without relying solely on fanciness.

-"Passing is the same as playmaking" Well, in my opinion passing is the last component of playmaking. Playmaking is being able to maintain the puck on your stick, while moving around drawing attention of defenders, making space for your teammates to fill and exploit. Playmaking is knowing where all the players are on the ice and knowing how to take advantage of some small inbalance in a split second. Playmaking is having vision and confidence, and at the very end of doing all this stuff, you dish the perfect pass to make it all able to happen. Passing is the last part.

-"He isn't a scoring man, and don't make it seem like this...You make it seem like he is ovechkin"
No, he hasnt lit the lamp a lot yet. I see a lot of potential in him and think that given different circumstances he'd be lighting the lamp plenty. I'd like to see him given different circumstances.

as far as the ovechkin thing...fucking please. If you want to have an actual discussion with someone dont put ridiculous words in their mouths, it's insulting.

Oh yeah he can bring the puck into the zone so well and [playmake so well! 11 POINTS. Case closed.

Do you watch games or just stare at the scoresheet? Because, clearly, no one here is talking about the same skater you are.

Kennedy is a forechecking monster and I love every second of it. Kid's set up a few very great chances the past few games.

hes also a rookie. he will get it eventually. kennedy may not be a point per game player, doubtful he will ever be close, but he certainly helps the team alot more then alot of players who score more.
