Lets get serious here CV, even Miller openly stated in the press that position was due to this team getting away with this crapy play. Welcome to the stretch run and (If they make them, big if at this point) the playoffs.

Leading the division or conference in Jan. is like saying you got some sticky finger, come April are you sliding into home base, or using a wipe for your finger? This team looks like its going for the finger wipe.

As for D and B, it wasn't Darcy's policy that prevented in-season contract negotiations. That was Golisano and/or Quinn, and it was that policy that prevented those players (and Vanek) from getting locked up sooner. Darcy had nothing to do with it.

As for this season vs next season, you have to be pretty impatient or obtuse to not realize how next season will be shaping up better than this one. 9.5 million worth of cap hit, from fairly unimportant UFAs, will be shed. There will be both physical room on the roster for Ennis, Weber and Enroth, and cap room for one or two impact FAs. We should see at least four solid upgrades across the roster. Don't hit me with the "I'm tired of waiting for 'next year'." The last few summers have seen Darcy in tough spots with not much to look forward to, but this summer is going to be a very good one. You guys have to look at nhlnumbers.com and be able to see it. It's a good picture, and a better off-season position than Darcy has had since 2005.

Thanks for saying it for me. What kind of statement would you prefer at the end of next season, or the next, or the next. Please SFS1980, lets find a new way to put it for the end of next season. I'm always in for skinnin a cat a different way.

Hell, Darcy would love us if we came up with a new excuse sound byte for him.

Funny, I was just thinking this today. How the Bills always manage to be good for the first couple weeks, then disappoint as usual. In the NFL the first few weeks don't mean shit, and in the NHL, it don't mean shit till the stretch and then playoffs.

Darcy hasn't been fun around trade time EVER. He hasn't changed since Quinn's been back.

Besides, how can you say Quinn 'handcuffs' Darcy? Money wise? Doesn't work. After today's moves, the team will finish with at least a $55.8M final payroll, only $1.8M under the cap.

The money is there to be spent. It just has to be spent better.

I completely agree Squanto, this is what truly leaves me in awe. Darcy rolled the dice, he came up short, I honestly believe this made him even more of a recluse come movement time, both at the deadline and in the FA period.

Agreed daz, I give Miller many kudos, he has kept this team alive and he has busted his ass doing it, I just don't see the desire or drive, or call it what you will, from the players infront of him. Hence, why not make changes, and give a little more than you normally would to snatch up someone worth a shit.

What pisses me off about him is he has a "trade deadline theory(my theory the deadline is a place to blah, blah, blah...)". Guess what, different situations call for different deadline moves, in case you never heard, Mr. Regier.

Yeah Darcy is a shit gm. Having one of the best group of prospects and not giving any of them up for a rental really shows how bad he is.

Since 05-06 the cap situation has just sucked. The team in 05-06 would never have been retained anyways, and then in 06-07 being at the cap ceiling. Then losing Briere and Drury made the team go down to having to rebuild for a bit at least.

I agree skyline, every team has to make these decisions, but it was obvious then and its obvious now, shedding Briere and/or Drury was a huge mistake. Not offering them the extenstions when they wanted 5 mil was a huge mistake.
Not retaining one of them was a huge mistake. They had chemistry here. It was successful, like I said, Darcy rolled the dice, he failed. A spade is a spade.

But B/D put aside, this season he has to of recognized the holes here and the special way Miller is playing, why would you waste your time on Stafford or Mac (they atleast moved Mac) or even some of the other "inconsistant" top 6 and make some plays to make changes that would not only help this season, but following ones as well. I don't see anyone but Ennis, Weber and Gragnani ready to challenge for a roster spot next season and out of them I see Ennis as the one to succeed.

Well what are you talking about. Darcy picking up a player for the playoff run shows he thinks we can make a run. Meaning he thinks we can contend this year. And not giving up any of the future shows he knows what he's doing. He's improved us this year without mortgaging our future and you call him out. Wtf do you want?

Come on now, be serious, I'm not being an ass here either, you watch the games, you see the team play just like I do. Now ask yourself, do you honestly, and I mean honestly, believe that picking up Raffi Torres is the total solution for a run this season?

I am advocating picking really good talent that has contracts longer than 1 more yr, I.E. Nathan Horton (4 mil a season) and talent such as this. And yes, you have to give to get. Its Darcy's job to be a negotiator, I'd like to see him fuckin negotiate.

Answer honestly man, I do. Even in my pissed at Darcy mood, I am admitting my own hometown teams shortcomings, thats why I'm so pissed.

You wanna mortgage the future for an inconsistent player who is currently injured? Someone who will command a raise we can't give him when his current contract expires. Instead of keeping kids that can perform well on cheap ELC's. I never said Raffi was the total sloution but he does improve our team this year. He played well in Edmonton's run to the cup and a proven playoff performer is always a good thing to acquire at the deadline when you feel you can make a run come playoff time. The guys you want you acquire at the draft not the deadline. Like Philly with Prongs.

As far as we know, Horton was off the block anyway. Irony posted a link about it a few days ago but most of us have discussed as if he was still available. He probably wasn't, and since nobody traded for him he either wasn't available or the price was too high for every other GM. Other than Horton there was only Boyes, and nobody else traded for him either. So how is Darcy so much worse than most GMs? There weren't any other big name forwards under long term contract that were acquired today, aside from the equal value deal with Wolski and Mueller.

There weren't any marquee trades to begin with today. They've already been made, Kovulchuk, Giguere...what're you complaining about Slesh?

Stating an opinion can be construed as complaining, depends on which side of the opinion your on I guess. As for big trades, I would like to see movement from this team, and not tomorrow, I've heard "wait till next season" for 40 years. Darcy can roll the dice, he should have is what my opinion is. I've heard this "Can't mortgage the future Crap" for years now. That statement is utter fucking bullshit, and I'm callin it as such.

40 years. 12 under this guy, nope, a spade is a spade, other teams have won cups, tore down then rebuilt their teams and won cups again. This excuse bullshit is just that, bullshit. He is a bad GM, I call it like I see it.

Fire Darcy and Quinn and we will win. Raffi Torres? Really? We need "that guy"!!! We don't have it!

Slesh do you feel that with this current roster that we are one big splash away from being a true contender? If you do then I agree that we should have made the move. However I feel that we still have some holes as does every team. And that these holes can be filled from within. I dont wanna trade cheap ELC contracts that can fill the holes for a player on a big money contract who will fill one hole.

Well slesh, you can't just assume that there were any amount of difference making players available today. There's nothing that i saw or heard today that hinted at any difference making forward being available beside Horton (probably not) and Boyes (that nobody else wanted either).

You want to talk generally that Darcy should have some something...anything, but you can't back it up with anything specific. There were two trades today that involved impact players. The Wolski/Mueller deal and the Whitney/Visnovsky deal, and they were sideways moves that involved equal value players for specific reasons. Those were moves that Darcy couldn't match and still improve the team. If you wanted players under contract, well they just weren't available.

Otherwise only a bunch of support player rentals were moved, and those players wouldn't be enough to make this team a Cup contender this season. Why bother giving up assets just to be a slightly better team that still can't make it to the finals, and then lose the players you traded for in the summer? That makes no sense at all.

Not all of it, but any wasted supplies are wasted supplies, right??? Next year you will be minus Paetsch, Torres, MacArthur, Lydman, Tallinder and a 2nd. You are gaining a 3rd and 4th. Best part is, you think a team who's 3-9-3 in their last 15 games is poised for a cup run. Maybe you ought to do your math a little better, watch the games sometimes, and get over your big Canadian win, because it's clouding your judgment.
