I can not believe they are sticking up for OV on NBC but they throw Cooke under the bus. I am not say the hit Cooke did was clean but this hit is just an dangerous if not more.

This was nowhere near what cooke did, get your head out of your ass

Ovie hit a guy too hard and he went into the boards awkwardly. If that was 10 feet closer to the red line it wouldn't have even been a penalty. Cooke tried to knock him out

I don't know Pants, This is the 4th time this season I've seen a questionable hit by Ovie. I'm not saying he did it to injure, but reckless play like this could cause a guy to have a career ending injury. This is three times out of those 4 questionable hits by Ovie that he has been tossed this season.

If its once or twice I would question it, but 4 hits this season and it becomes a pattern with this guy.

Yes Pants, IF it was 10 feet closer to the red line but it wasn't. Ovie knew where he and Campbell were, the close proximity to the boards, and his speed. He made the conscious decision to push Campbell (from behind) which caused him to slam uncontrollable into the boards. It definitely was not incidental contact, that was intentional. Maybe not to injure but it was intentional. Ovie is out for himself and himself alone and he will take out whoever gets in his way by ANY MEANS!

I think the point Pants is trying to make is that while both hits were dirty, Cooke's was significantly worse on the dirty-o-meter.

Ok, yeah....I see that now. At first it seemed like he was almost defending Ovie's hit. I definitely agree with that statement then

The only reason it looks as bad as it does is how Campbell fell, and that was only because of where the contact happened.

I'm not defending OV here, but the hit was not as bad as other headhunting hits already this year. OV make a bad decision and pushed him, everyone knows how he likes to play ON THE LINE, so he does this stuff. He shouldn't of, but you have 2 second to make your mind up, he chose the wrong action, and you never know if he meant to push him that hard.

This hit is nothing compared to what Cooke did, Cooke intentionally went out of his way to hit Savard with an elbow.

Agreed can't compare it to Cookes intentional hit but now Ocrapkin is a repeat offender so 5 games would be cool. OV IS a dirty player hopefully someone will go after him pretty hard. He's not a tough guy just a dirty selfish Russian egomanic.

Surprised that Campbell doesn't pad his equipment with money...

It is definitely a dangerous hit, and I agree that Ovechkin is a cheap player, but I don't know that a suspension would send any message whatsoever unless it's huge.

Since the Caps are having a guarenteed po spot now is there any possibility to suspend him later (playoff start?) b/c this would really hurt HIM and team Russia -->message sent!

These kinds of hits are impossible to avoid.

Just when Ovie does something stupid, Downie tries to break Sid's leg. WTF is going so wrong with the league?

I think the NHL needs to send a "stop playing like a douchebag" message because if it doesn't come at the hands of the NHL, it will come at the hands of a guy like Downie in something reminiscent of today's crosby incident.

That's one of the most dangerous hits in hockey.

If you're looking at the name on the back of the sweater, you don't do that. Ever.

He doesn't hit him in the numbers though, campbell goes into the boards shoulder first, he was on his side.

I think what he got is enough

Have any of you played hockey. Rule 1. Above everything else you do not hit from behind. OV is a dirty player always has been and a suspension wont stop him. But I imagine 2-3 games for it.

Cooks was dirty.

I think OV's was more dangerous.

Then why the fuck is Ovechkin so special? Hits from behind will always happen and have been happening a lot. Why is it that out of all the cheap shotters Ovechkin obtains most attention? Even though he isn't meaning to do it and is just playing agressive?

Every hit from behind is looked at as a chicken shit move. This one garnered more attention because it was OV, just like Downie's knee is overblown cause it was on Crosby. People need to stop defending his reckless actions by saying he's just playing hard and agressive. Look at how many players in the league earn a paycheck by playing that way but don't hurt players with a dirty hit. There is no denying wat OV did today was dirty. He could clearly see his numbers and still went for the hit.

1. Cooke's hit was FAR more dangerous. We're talking permanent head trauma vs a separated shoulder.

2. Ovechkin won't get suspended because the window for a suspension following a second game misconduct of the same variety is 41 games, and today's match was 42 games since he boarded Pattymouth. The NHL's rules are seriously broken. This loophole needs to be eliminated by changing the verbiage from "within 41 games" to "within the same season".
