The NHL's rules are seriously broken. This loophole needs to be eliminated by changing the verbiage from "within 41 games" to "within the same season"m

The end result of Cooke's hit was worse.

But if Campbell had gone into the boards head first?

Concussion, broken neck, possible paralyzation...

It really wasn't much of a hit, it was a push more than a hit.

It's stupid what he did, but I doubt a suspension would come of this as Campbell just hurt his shoulder and shouldn't be out long if at all from it.

Still if Lapiere from Montreal can get 4 games for pushing Nichol into the boards I bet OV get 4 games plus 1 more game because of the misconducts he has had this year.

Ovie hit a guy too hard and he went into the boards awkwardly. If that was 10 feet closer to the red line it wouldn't have even been a penalty. Cooke tried to knock him out

Doubt it, it is Ovechkin.

Like I said, it was how Campbell fell which made it seem worse than it was.

It was a push, but I'd call it boarding.

That was a dangerous hit.

The outcome of the injury doesn't matter. Its the act. And as I said before rule fucking 1 in minor hockey is no hitting from behind. He could clearly see Campbell's numbers and he pushed Cambell into the board at top speed. As someone mentioned Lapierre got four. OV is a repeat offender now and this is a definite suspension.

Yea, but most hits are actually from behind. With the way Campbell dished the puck away he could most likely see Ovechkin coming in his peripheral vision.

It really wasn't a hit anyways, more of a push and Campbell fell. I agree it being a bit late and all and think OV should sit a few games, but I'm doubting it happens.

If this is the first time that Ovie did anything, then no, don't suspend him. However, letting him slide when he's already a repeat offender just continues the pattern of inconsistency with supplemental discipline in the NHL.

If you say that repeat offenders are going to be held to a stricter standard, then let a repeat offender off the hook, it continues to send the wrong (and a confusing) message.

The end result of Cooke's hit is how it is because of the intention of Cooke's hit - he intended to do indiscriminate damage to Marc Savard by aiming his shoulder or elbow into Savard's head. The possible outcome of that hit are the same as the possible outcomes of Ovechkin's hit on Soupy, but the difference here is Cooke aimed for the dome whereas Ovechkin simply gave him a shitty hit. We're talking intent to end a guy's career versus intent to ruin the guy's night or season.

But really, why are we debating which hit was worse? Both a goon fuckin' moves that have no place in hockey. Same for Downie trying to snap Crosby's leg.

Did you read my post. I said it was a push and never said it was late because it wasn't. Did Americans change the unwritten rules? You get a full second after getting rid of the puck to get hit. Except you shouldn't get hit/pushed FROM BEHIND. Like it wasn't even a hit where the player turned last second to make it from behind. OV saw his back for 2 full seconds and still followed through.

Problem is, they've already found the loophole in the rule book that let's him slide scott-free. So they're just doing what the rulebook says, when usually they just tend to interpret it as they see fit for lesser thugs.

I doubt a suspension too, but not for the same reasons. I think it wont happen because Colin Campbell is a completely incompetent ass. Campbell broke his collarbone and also broke a few ribs ribs. He might be out for the season according to ESPN, which is a lot longer than you implying him possibly not missing any time. Also, Campbell has already set us up for the news of no suspension for this hit when he said this about the incident "The knee [suspension from Dec. 1] does not apply as he was suspended for that," NHL head disciplinarian Colin Campbell said. "If you get two boarding game-misconduct penalties, you get an automatic suspension if 41 games have not lapsed. In [Ovechkin's] case, 41 games have lapsed since his last boarding [game misconduct], so he is not suspended automatically."

I didn't realize Campbell might be out longer, I knew he sat out the game for further testing, but I still bet he comes back before the playoffs if he is out any time. Unless his shoulder is really fucked.

Exactly he plays so aggressively at such a high speed this is bound to happen. But he had time to know that Campbell was showing his back. Thats where he needs to learn to let up.

True, but some of his hits are borderline just like everyone else in the league who actually hits guys.

It was stupid what he did, will the NHL suspend him? I highly doubt it, but we'll find out tomorrow if a suspension is coming to either OV or downie.

Well, recovery time is six to 8 weeks to heal but the problem is, collarbone's tend to break easier the next time so coming back early is not going to do anything except put him at more risk..
