Shit for brains, aka Larry Quinn, has confirmed to TBN that the sale agreement is complete, now just pending league approval.

Quote:
Reached on his cell phone by The News late Monday afternoon, Sabres minority owner Larry Quinn confirmed reports that the sale agreement is complete. Golisano, Quinn and fellow minority owner Daniel DiPofi are expected to discuss the agreement Thursday.

Pegula, 59, is expected to have his own press conference at a later date, once the deal is approved by the NHL's Board of Governors. That's expected to happen within the next month.

Where's Randy Cunneyworth these days? I seem to recall that he was very good for us in Rochester. In my opinion, when he left the usefulness of our call-ups declined. He worked well with Ruff (which is NOT a bad thing!).

If I remember right he was with either Columbus or Atlanta last I knew...too lazy to google him

He operated the team for Golisano

While Larry may have screwed this team up(or Darcy) by not working on contracts until they were unworkable, it was ultimately BTG's responsibility. Am I glad Golisano made a smart business decision to buy this team on the short, and make some quick money? Not really. Am I glad the team is still in Buffalo? Sure. I think the devout fans(us) deserve most of the credit for that. BTG gets credit for making the team lucrative, and his profits from the sale are his thanks for that. Am I thankful to TP for being a passionate future hockey owner, rather than a guy trying to flip a business. Yes. Here's an article that kind of echoes these sentiments:

If Golisano doesn't buy the team on the short, the team isn't still here.

Do you know that for a fact? Not being a smart ass, but that is a supposition. Everyone knows Hamilton was a possibility, but a certainty?? I do realize if he didn't buy the team when he did, they would have remained in uncertainty, but that's about it. No one put a gun to anyone's head, and said, "if BTG doesn't buy this team, then we're moving them".

There were no other interested buyers that wanted to keep the team in Buffalo. None. Zero.

As the Hamister bid was falling apart, people were SCRAMBLING to find someone that would step in to keep the team here. The parties that the NHL were lining up would have bought the team with the express purpose of moving them.

This was all widely reported, and not some assumptions on my part. Had Larry Quinn not gotten BTG involved, this team is no longer here.

If you gave me the name of the investors who were going to move the team somewhere else, that would help convince me.

Also, it looks like keeping the team here was the smart choice anyways, because it made Golly a fortune. This 'giant line' of investors(which I didn't see) looking to move the team were all going to make a mistake. I don't see investors being that stupid. Besides, to move the team would have been easily 20x more difficult than remaining in Buffalo. You know as well as I that when a team is in a 'prospective move', that talk is extremely cheap. Hamister and BTG knew this was a slam dunk. Imagine what this club would be worth if the economy remained good.

Ninja edit from TBN.

"Reached on his cell phone by The News late Monday afternoon, Sabres managing partner Larry Quinn confirmed reports that the team will discuss the sale Thursday. Quinn is expected to be joined by Golisano and minority owner Daniel DiPofi at a press conference in HSBC Arena.

Although Quinn denied Monday that an actual purchase agreement was in place, it's highly unlikely the Sabres would schedule a press conference without a deal being completed by Thursday."

Paul Allen was trying to buy the team from the NHL and move it to Seattle. The NHL wanted to try and keep the team in Buffalo if they could find a purchaser. Hamister stepped up, so the NHL told Allen to step aside, and they would give him a chance if no buyer could be found to keep the team here. When Hamister backed out, (thankfully) Larry Quinn pulled Golisano in to prevent Allen from coming back in.

Paul Allen also wanted to buy the Trail Blazers. That didn't happen either. Haha. I'll agree BTG saved the day, but the league wanted the team here, and I'm not so sure they would have thrown their hands up in frustration, and gave it to anyone to let them take it wherever they wanted. Keeping it here was the right decision.

PS, I'm glad Hamister didn't get it. That would have been a joke.

Sure, the league WANTED to keep the team here. That was their first option. However, they wouldn't have waited forever for someone to step up.

Look at Phoenix. Bettman said clear as day on Saturday that they were trying to get it done to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix, but they weren't going to wait forever. If it looks like they can't get it done, they'll allow the team to be moved.

It's no different.

I'm not so sure they'll move the Yotes. That was Buttman's project, and I don't see him allowing it to fail. If he does allow it, then it will improve my perception of him. I respect a person who can live up to their failures, and attempt to correct them. Something Sabre's management lacks.

I love reading the speculations. Sorry I don't post here much, as long as I've been a member, but the dreainess of this team leaves little to remark about.

My prediction is this: Quinn, gone, obviously, and thankfully. The only downside of Golisano buying the team that I saw was that Quinn would be back, and while he hasn't brought about as much destruction as he did in his forst go-round, he's basically been useless as far as improving any aspect of this team from marketing to the locker room.

I see Darcy's job on the chopping block with a mandate to either start pulling the trigger on some deals that will make this team better or start packing his bags. I bet his procrastinatoin on making deals will be a big subject at the first meeting with the new owner.
Lindy may be safe for this year and next, but unless this team moves up in the standings and makes a real challenge for a championship, I can see him spending some time standing in front of Pegula's desk.

Players-wise, I think most of us have the same consensus on who needs to go, with Connelly leading the way.
I expected more out of Grier and Neidermeyer this year, and maybe that veteran leadership they tote will show it's face down the stretch. These guys weren't brought here to score as much as to inspire our young players.

If this guy is as passionate about this team and has been a fan as long as I have (Since 1974), then I think we should see some very positive trends in Buffalo. Maybe he still remembers the real glory days of the 70's when we came out as an expansion team and made the finals in our 4th year, something no one ever seems to focus on. Guess it's a younger fan base that's probably stretching to remember Mogilny-LaFontaine and the magic they shared once upon a time....

Im in the middle.... My first memories are of, Barrasso, Rammer, Housley, Foligno, Anderychuk, and the tail end of Gilbert... and then the Hasek, Patty and Alex days on up... this team has a proud history and Im excited to see what Terry can do with them... and I pretty much agree with your other assessments...

I think he will let Darcy and Ruff will stay on another year. But heads will roll if they don't make the playoffs next year, and it should.

This team has quite a few good vets and young players. They are just two or three players away from being a great team.

Connolly, Grier, Neids, Lalime. Bye bye. I like Lalime as a person. Great cheerleader, but we need a good backup. I think Enroth can do that next year.

I am very happy about this sale. Can't wait.
