Both of those factors can skew the "goals per icetime" stat and make some players look better than they actually are. If that stat was such a gold standard in terms of evaluating players, we'd hear about it more.

Thing is, we don't, for reasons like the ones stated above.

And here's the thing that's most telling to me;

i am in no way saying vanek sucks. i just agreed vanek isn't playing as great as he should be/isn't all that clutch as his contract leads you to believe.


and also, for what its worth, how many games did it take vanek to pass roy for most points?

with that said, that was a nice little bonus goal by vanek.

That's Lindy Ruff's fault for trying to make Vanek play a certain way. Vanek has said in interviews that the Sabres system is tailored away from letting him carry the puck. Look how good Vanek has been with the puck this year and how many great setup passes he has given players this year.

There are only two or three players in the league that legitimately make those around them better, Crosby, Ovechkin, and Malkin.

Oh and Vanek scored. fuck you all. (except don)
