Great. He scored a late goal in a blowout of the fucking Leafs. Proves quite a bit.

I'll eat crow if Vanek leads this team to the playoffs down the stretch. But that's the only way.

also, kotalik was never any hero for always winning the shootouts for us, so why is vanek a hero for being paid $7 million a season to come up with the goal or helpers in o.t.?

Kotalik never led this team in goals, and not for 5 straight years and doing so once again this year. Vanek also leads our team in points, so Vanek sure sucks then.



i am in no way saying vanek sucks. i just agreed vanek isn't playing as great as he should be/isn't all that clutch as his contract leads you to believe.


and also, for what its worth, how many games did it take vanek to pass roy for most points?

with that said, that was a nice little bonus goal by vanek.

Vanek passed Roy at like 43 games or something. Vanek had a bad start of the year just like the rest of the team. Had he had production like he has had this so far in January and now February, he's easily be a PPG player this year, but that's an IF too.

roy was averaging 1.117 ppg, so with that sentiment he'd be at 58 points if he played all 50 games. sure its an if, too, but it shows that roy statistically, THIS SEASON ATLEAST, was a better player. and roy is getting paid over $3 million less than vanek.

I don't get all the complaining about Vanek, it doesn't seem to even matter on a 1G 2A night. They're always out there.

He got pounded all of last year too. Players have to start pounding the guys who pound on Vanek. Of course I'm biased, but it seems to me that you're allowed to crosscheck and slash Vanek. I think there's an exception in the rule book. You breathe on the league favorites and you're sitting for 2.

But just a thought .... looking at the stat sheet, Vanek 5 shots, Stafford 7 and McCormick 0. That's much better than McCormick 8 and Vanek 2.


There's a reason the Bruins went after him early in the playoffs last year and did him dirty. The problem was that they seemed to target Ennis instead of Roy and Connolly after the slew foot slew our dragon.

I criticized him last night at least 2-3 times, making a few bad passes when I felt he should have shot and missing on the one scoring opportunity in front of the net. The way I see it, I'm being way more fair than most in regards to Vanek, even if I am giving him the benefit of the doubt a smidge too much.

Powerplayer got run off of these boards for harping on the same tired point too much, but that's exactly what people do to Vanek. At least PP was right when he said the Sabres were underwhelming.

Powerplayer was run off these boards for repeatedly pissing people off, and breaking the site rules. Nothing more than that.

I get that you want to defend Vanek when you feel he's criticized unfairly. To me, it just gets to be too much when nobody is saying anything, and you have to scream FUCK YOU VANEK HATERS every time he gets on the scoresheet.

Just my .02.

EDIT: And because some people get confused, I'm not talking in super secret mod language that you should stop screaming about Vanek haters every 45 seconds. I just personally find it annoying.
