Slesh, I'm not talking about "wait til next season". I'm actually talking about this season. Right now, this team isn't good enough to win the Stanley Cup, and there isn't any amount of trades that could change it by tomorrow afternoon.

NOTHING WILL MAKE THIS TEAM A CUP CONTENDER THIS SEASON...NOTHING.

Giving up picks and prospects for over-priced UFAs that won't stay with the team beyond a vain one or two playoff series is an obvious waste of assets. This summer will actually be a friendly off-season for Darcy - shedding useless salary and having a few legit prospects coming around. Why mess that up for a slightly better team now that STILL won't win the Cup?

This is bull shit. There are absolutely trades that will make this team a cup contender.

At the very least, there are trades that will put them on the right path to being one in the coming years.

There is absolutely no argument against making deals at the deadline. Sorry.

well if he doesn't make the playoffs maybe he'll get fired. or promoted to head of scouting, i don't trust quinn to bring in quality but hey buffalo is passionate enough to put up billboards about a team that absolutely sucks in the bills, i'd think they might give a damn about a team that is not beyond fixing, and has more potential to make the playoffs this decade.

I think I'm going to agree with 1980. I don't want to see us trade anyone for a rental who will be, In Darcy's opinion, an "over-priced" free-agent next July. I only wants trades that make the team better, because we simply aren't that good of a team(to win the cup), and we will once again lose players to free-agency. On the other hand, I don't see how Regier plans to win a cup by replacing veteran blue-liners with rookies every year?? At some point we have to get the right pieces together. Is our 'core' as good as some other teams? Most certainly not(if you need examples, then your dumb). Are our farm players far and away the best? I don't think so. In fact, they are mostly redundancies of the small forwards we already have. I don't know people, are we being played by this guy, or what? I don't see any logic or master plan here, do you?

You have to give in some areas to improve in others.

This is why you develop players in the minors.

This team needs scoring, badly. Montador or Weber won't be as good as Lydman in the back, but that's a small price to pay if you can bring in some potency up front.

PSP, not this season. No GM ends up making trades at one deadline that brings in three legit difference making players. We need a forward (at least one), a PP d-man and another good defensive d-man. How do you suggest obtaining all three to make this team a Cup contender THIS season without giving up players that are also part of that equation? Anything Darcy, or any other GM with this team, could do right now is take two steps up and one step back.

There are trades out there, but not enough to change this team right now. The only difference making player under contract that's (apparently) on the market is Horton. ONE PLAYER that would fit in Buffalo that would still be on the team next season. I already said Horton is a trade worth trying (at a fair price). Otherwise their isn't anything that would help the team to be a contender "in the coming years". This summer is a good one to wait and sign the UFAs that will fit, without paying for ones that won't stay.

UFA's are the worst way to improve your team, as you always over pay for them.

So I guess I don't understand why you think that would be a better way to improve the team.

Trades always work better, and there should be opportunities out there.

Not always. Some guys are worth over paying for, depending on the holes you need filled. I'd rather spend an extra million to land Orpik, than have to give up my top prospect to land him. You've been listening to Regier's rhetoric too long.

Why try to trade for a UFA when he won't resign with the team anyway???

All these guys out there on the block right now are pending UFAs, except Horton. If you want them on the team long term you'll have to pay them anyway. May as well pay for a guy without giving up assets for him too. The UFA market is taking a much needed downturn anyway. It's still not the most cost effective tactic, but Buffalo will have cap room and price tags will be down this summer, so it's the right time. Besides, to actually upgrade the team you have to have players with contracts that you don't need, and that other GMs want. There's not a lot of that on Buffalo's roster right now, unless you dig into picks and prospects. With a few useless contracts getting dumped this summer, some of that depth will have to be relied upon to fill holes. Another one or two can be filled via FA signing, and hopefully any combination of MacArthur, Stafford, Sekera, picks and prospects other than Adam, Ennis, Kassian, and Enroth can bring in a bigger name player.

Hardly any of this can happen before 3pm.

I agree I'm just waiting for tomorrow to hear Darcy tell us about he had discussions with other teams but the market just wasn't there or the market value of certain players were too high. I'm tired of his crap. I really only look forward to the NHL draft because this is the only way we have any chance at acquiring someone that's going to help this team unless he makes picks like Zagrapan and Persson because it's not going to be in any of his recent trades.

Same stuff every year. Darcy will make a lousy pickup at the last minute. Someone that may have been having a so-so year with his team, then when he gets to Buffalo, he will score no more than 2 or 3 goals and leave at the end of the year.

I really fear this team is going to slide, a lot. :(

Darcy has pulled off steals before, I'm confident he can do something good.

Who do you foresee moving at the deadline this year that would transform this team into a Cup Contender?

And please don't say Ray Whitney.

Not taking this any further. Agree to disagree my friend.

Hot goaltender, strong defense and penalty kill... add scoring and fix the power play and this team is a contender, whether you want to believe it or not.

We were 1 finisher away from beating Pittsburgh 4-2 last night with Lalime in goal.

Wasn't the best game, but if we had someone who could score and we won it, it would have been looked at as a solid road game.

This was posted on Spector's sight. Nothing more than this, but seems about right for Darcy. Looking for the long term, not for the now. Sabres are going to end up trading for someone like Brad May.

BUFFALO NEWS: reports Sabres GM Darcy Regier doesn't see any potential deadline deals he likes as he looks for a deal for the long term.

Every time I see this thread or see the article headline in TBN, I feel like choking someone and beating them with a hammer, all while a picture of this cowards face (Darcy's) is taped to theirs. Since all he can do is sit in his office like a scared little bastard saying how much he believes the best move is none at all and how he believes in staying the course. Fuck that noise.

Now I'm not one to say trade the farm or sell off everything for this season or it's bust, I'd like to see the team competitive each year. But, for the love of all humanity, MAKE A FUCKING MOVE THAT SAYS YOU WANT TO SEE SOMETHING HAPPEN ON THE ICE BEFORE WE'RE GONE IN THE FIRST FUCKING ROUND OR MISS THE PLAYOFFS COMPLETELY YOU TWISTED FACE ARSEFUCK!!!!

I've had this in my system since last night when I read that article. Now with it out of my system, I can focus and get ready for tonight’s game. Oh, and maybe get some work done.

3 pm is ticking closer Darcy, shit or get off the fucking pot.

Building from within, no deals are outthere, longterm and don't trade to make a trade" - Wishing I would get 1 $ everytime Darcy is using some bullshit like this. Chances are great I'd be rich like an nhl player.

Anyway I'm not surprised at all same story different year thats all.

We aren't contenders guess what? Without our goaliebot we wouldn't even discuss the possibility of making the playoffs. Ruff has a talent to turn top players into average ones eg. Vanek (he is not a Zetterberg!), Roy and of course Pommers. As long as he isn't willing to trade them for a franchise player he'd better let em play THEIR style.

No matter what its fun watching other teams getting better and better why we're standing pat.

It's the same story every year guys...He'll do something, don't worry...good lord people get up in arms over these statements every year, and every year he makes a move...it just takes time

What Darcy said is very simple, and should be easy for those going crazy to understand. He's not trading for a pending UFA, it's that simple. He doesn't want a rental, he wants a player under contract.

Everyone that going nuts, please tell me what players under long term contract are on the block right now that would help Buffalo? I know maybe Horton, but who else?
