Anyway I'm not surprised at all same story different year thats all.

We aren't contenders guess what? Without our goaliebot we wouldn't even discuss the possibility of making the playoffs. Ruff has a talent to turn top players into average ones eg. Vanek (he is not a Zetterberg!), Roy and of course Pommers. As long as he isn't willing to trade them for a franchise player he'd better let em play THEIR style.

No matter what its fun watching other teams getting better and better why we're standing pat.

Ruff seemed to do a good job turning good players into great players when they were here...Do I even need to state their names?

True but he's also turning great into average players. So theres a small line I think. Vanek will never ever be a two way player either he understands it or trade him but the current situation doesn't help him nor the Sabres.

What Darcy said is very simple, and should be easy for those going crazy to understand. He's not trading for a pending UFA, it's that simple. He doesn't want a rental, he wants a player under contract.

Everyone that going nuts, please tell me what players under long term contract are on the block right now that would help Buffalo? I know maybe Horton, but who else?

Brad Boyes outa STL is rumored to be in play for roster player, prospect, and decent draft pick

I wouldn't mind Boyes. He's been fairly solid for the Blues organization in the past. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery.

He's in the same situation Vanek is; just having a down year, no consistent line mates, so on so forth. You dont score 33 and 43 goals, and then all of a sudden drop to being a 15-20 goal guy the rest of your career, although there are exceptions out there, thats generally the rule.

I keep checking TBN to see if anyone has an update from the morning skate as to who was there and not. Still nothing. Although the quietness still gives some hope that maybe something is under wraps and about to happen, all of this is killing me!

Ha, I got TSN Trade Centre up here at the school...and things won't start going down until the end of the day.

Yeah I knew about Boyes. I've been discussing him in other threads with Jim Bob, but I forgot to mention him in that post. But still, that's two players, and Boyes was just put out there only two days ago.

 I have it streaming at work as well. Not sure how productive I'm going to be here today, but I think (and hope) you're right here Los. By the time the clock ticks to 00:00:00 hrs, I'm hoping to see atleast one new face in our uniform that will be an addition!

I hope by "nothing close" he means that Marty Biron was vacationing in Florida during the break, and has to fly back to Buffalo...

Slesh, I'm not talking about "wait til next season". I'm actually talking about this season. Right now, this team isn't good enough to win the Stanley Cup, and there isn't any amount of trades that could change it by tomorrow afternoon.

NOTHING WILL MAKE THIS TEAM A CUP CONTENDER THIS SEASON...NOTHING.

Giving up picks and prospects for over-priced UFAs that won't stay with the team beyond a vain one or two playoff series is an obvious waste of assets. This summer will actually be a friendly off-season for Darcy - shedding useless salary and having a few legit prospects coming around. Why mess that up for a slightly better team now that STILL won't win the Cup?

This is bull shit. There are absolutely trades that will make this team a cup contender.

At the very least, there are trades that will put them on the right path to being one in the coming years.

There is absolutely no argument against making deals at the deadline. Sorry.

I agree also, all we really need is a good RWer for Vanek and Roy, and maybe another scoring forward, but even then this team isn't that far off.

But the trades you're talking about Sabresfan are ones like landing Ovechkin or Crosby or something, of course those won't happen, but you seem to forget where this team is currently sitting in the playoff race. It doesn't matter where you place at the end of the year, if you're in the playoffs you can win the cup, and just because they aren't number one in the nhl at that time doesn't mean anything. Look at how that president's trophy helped San Jose, or Even Buffalo when they had it. Hardly ever does winning the Prez trophy mean a cup. You make the playoffs, especially ending the season on a high note you can go very far.

I'm not talking about a blockbuster. Horton would be the type of addition that would be a starting point, but there aren't enough of those players on the market right now, unless you look at UFAs that will only be rentals. If you start trading for those players too, you're looking at sideways movement - adding players and losing players (ones that we actually want).

Let's say that Darcy could manage to land Horton and Whitney. That's about 7.5 mil added to the cap, 10 mil added if he can land Corvo (or any player like him - Seidenberg). Not only will Darcy have to move players we actually need, but it will be necessary to shed 9 mil in cap space to fit the new players in. The expendable players won't cut it. Car and Fla won't want pending UFAs like Lydman or Tallinder, but they might take them if Mac or Stafford and a hefty pick and prospect are thrown in, or Roy. Problem is we need Roy, maybe not him, but another veteran center because going in the playoffs with just Connolly, Kennedy, Gaustad and Mair won't cut it. Then you have to pony up bigger dollars to find another center. That's sideways movement that doesn't actually improve the team.

Like I said, the summer is actually the better time to make moves. Darcy will have space to work with for FAs. The team will be stronger next season anyways, so being aggressive then makes more sense.

this is going to sound weird, but if nothing is close i'm sure we don't all want Regier aka numb nuts, to make a trade just because he is trying to appease people, we had that last year with moore. The telleqvist move was to shore up the back up. This is like one time where conservative would be a good thing. but if there is something out there and he doesn't want it but it can help then fuck him. but according to him there is nothing.

Read the article, it clearly said he was looking for specific players or certain roles from players. He might have been looking at a certain player but the other team didn't want to trade them.

It takes two to trade, so it isn't always Regier's fault trades aren't made, we don't know how he is with the phone we don't know a damn thing about what they do behind closed doors.

I disagree, we know alot about what they do behind closed doors, we have 12 years of proof laying on the table.

Just because he hadn't made a move for a blockbuster player for Buffalo means nothing.

Buffalo was a small market team in 97-04 and also went bankrupt during that time. Regeir couldn't do much except make bank or break even for Buffalo, and when they went bankrupt he couldn't do much since they shredded all of their salary. Since 05 we never had that perfect team, except 05-06 of course, that adding a player was going to change much. And after losing Briere and Drury why trade away every pick and prospect for one player also?

Also how do we add someone big really, this team is spending enough money on who we have now.

And I would love to see what he does behind closed doors, we don't know still, the media has no idea, he could just be spewing BS for all we know. Why let people know what you do at your job when we are all just armchair GM's who think we could do a better job.

We may all want certain players and make ridiculous trade proposals, but that other team would need to accept it also, this isn't an NHL game where you throw in crappy players with picks to get anyone you want.
