That right there is why Ovechkin does not deserve another Hart trophy. The Capitals have evolved from the team that was carried on Ovechkin's back to the team that can win any way it wants regardless of who's in the lineup.

If anybody but Ovechkin wins this award I'll be astonished. He's played 62 gms, and has 97 Points. 45 of which are goals.

Sure he's suspended, and sure his team might win without him. But how much better are they with him? He's the best player in the world at the forward position in the game. Suspensions or not, you can't take that away from him.

I want Miller to win it, but I also dont think anybody can take away from how dynamic of a player Ovechkin is, and how much better the Caps are with him on the ice.

Well, then he deserves the Lester B. Pearson award for being the most outstanding player in the regular season.

No one is going to convince me that any one player is more important to their club than Bryzgalov and Miller (1 and 2, in that order). Look at the standings, the stats, and then look at how each team performs without said player in the lineup. It's Bryz and Miller by a landslide IF the award is handed out by it's definition.

The Sabres are undefeated this season when Andrew Peters is in the lineup. Just sayin..

Ovie is their Captain, too. That counts for something.

Something like 10-2-2 or something like that.

I agree with you Phil except for the fact Bryz won't win it.

Miller has been far better with a lesser team. Phoenix has a very decent team and stole the show on deadline day. They've won their past 9 games and are on a roll. You also have to account their coach has done one hell of a job making that team play much better.

But if Miller or Bryz are not 1 and 2 in the Hart race, then the only other person I can see even getting one or two is Henrik Sedin. Crosby and OV aren't needed on their team to win or carry them anymore. Crosby should not even get any top 5 votes for this and same with AO.

The Pearson is all Ovie's and noone can take that away from him this year. He is clearly the league MVP, and if someone where to take it from OV, it would have to only be Miller with his play this year.

And Mike, Miller still leads the league with a .929 Sv% and is second only to Rask in GAA.

A small dent in my Bryz >>> Miller argument: LaBarbera has a winning record (7-4-1) as Bryz's backup, while Lalime has a wretched record (3-6-2) as Miller's. Granted, how the team plays in front of their goaltender is a factor in these records, but the numbers don't lie.

Advantage: Miller (in this regard)

heres some food for thought for the bryzgalov backers:

my boy jimmy howard has a 2.34 GAA (bryzgalov 2.29, miller at 2.20)

howard has a .924 save percentage, while bryz has a .921 and millers is at .929.

its a much closer race then people realize. i dont think a goalie will win the hart, because no goalie is having an out of this world season.

and yes, i know howard was never mentioned, but i showed his stats to show you how even it is across the board. also, as much as i love myers, im almost certain howard will get the calder.

Howard ought not to be even eligible, given the year he was drafted. Bullshit loophole. (If he wins it, I'll be pissed because of this loophole, not that he beat Myers out for it)

Everyone is saying the race for Calder is between Howard, Myers, and Duchene.

And Myers should win it because of how long it takes to groom a defensemen.

Howard shouldn't win it, but if he does win the Calder I won't be disappointed, the Wings need him and he's their future.

Now we need a Calder Trophy topic.

why shouldnt howard win it? it takes a long time to groom a defensemen, yes, but to have a goalie come in and throw up THOSE numbers? those are veznia consideration worthy numbers.

They are Vezina worthy numbers, but not this year.

You also have to realize Howard is 25 and has had plenty of playing time to be ready for NHL action.

yeah, but miller was in the same boat and would have been a calder favourite had he not been a rookie when crosby and ovie were rookies.

If Howard is 25, he's not eligible. Isn't that how it goes - once you hit 25, you're no longer eligible?

as long as he doesnt turn 26 before the september 15th of the season in question. so howard turning 26 this week will not hamper his eligibility.

Listen up, Mike.

Myers is going to win it, and there's nothing you can do about it. :D :D

What a bullshit loophole.

At this point, I still say Myers is the front-runner, and not because my Buffalo homerism.
