the person most deserving of league of mvp, should probably win team MVP as well. the hart hasnt been held to its original standards in years.

Which is a crock of shit, anyways. And I think your logic is flawed, Mike, since a very very good player single-handedly dragginig his team to a Cup may not be as fantastically talented as some 120-point forward with the hands of God, but he's more important to his team than the forward on a stacked team.

what about gretzky? he won it like 5 times, and then he moved on to LA, and edmonton still won without him.

the idea is its to the person who helps his team the most, but that idea is not in practice, and its to whoever posts the most awesome stats in a season. and its been that way for a LONG time.

I don't' think Gretz deserves all of his Harts, either...it's the same situation as Ovechkin and the Caps

Alex Ovechkin is still the most valuable member of his team but he's not as valuable to the Caps as, say, Miller is to the Sabres or Bryzgalov is to the Coyotes or H. Sedin is to the Canucks.

Aaron, this is what I meant with my AO isn't the most valuable for his team.

Guess I should have read it better. Because this is exactly what I should have said.

Also Mike you have to remember the guys that the Oilers got for Gretzky were instrumental in the playoffs the year they won their 5th cup and only cup without Gretzky.

I mean I don't think the Oilers would have won any cups without Gretzky in the first place.

It Gretzky's number retired by the entire nhl because he managed to play on every single team in his career?

I will concede that Gretzky is the best skater to ever play the game. But if I'm the most talented player, I know I'm going to get paid regardless, so I'm going to find a place I like and stay there. Not follow the $$$ around the league to half a dozen teams.

You know the only reason he left the Oilers is because their owner dumped him off to the Kings so he could use the money he got in return for Gretzky to pay off his non-hockey debts, right? And after he went to the Kings, he only moved once more to the Rangers?

And the blues. I knew the edmonton trade wasn't his fault.

Forgot about the Blues stop. Whoopsie.

Still, if Peter freakin Pocklington didn't ship him off for cash, I'm sure he would've retired in Edmonton with 10 cup rings.

Luongo hasn't been as necessary this season for the Canucks with the offense suddenly becoming so lethal. Bobby Lu has been good, but not as good as in the past, and he hasn't needed to be that good this season. And who was it that got injured out of the Sedins? Daniel, wasn't it? His brother sure as hell stepped it up when his brother went down.

either way, luongo is still a top 5 goalie in the NHL, and when you throw that into the mix, its a whole other dynamic.

Normally I'd say yes, you're right, but not this he isn't (save being 5th in wins, but a strong offensive team in front of a good but not great goalie can inflate a wins stat).

This is a stupid argument. Ryan Miller will win the Hart because he stole everyone's "hart" during the Olympics. Okay end of story.

Yea, Henrik really stepped it up when Daniel went down.

But look at Daniel's numbers since he's come back. Had he not been injured you'd see 50 goals out of him and 100 points also easily. He has something like 70 in 54 games or something like that.

Also Gretzky was traded without his consent really, he picked La because of his girlfriend at the time, and he was unhappy with the play of the Kings and got traded to the Blues.

He also rejected more money from the Blues to join the Rangers the next year. 3 years at 15 million for the Blues for a 2 year 8 million for the Rangers, plus incentives of course.

If you looked at it from a "full season" what-if situation, ovechkin should win it no questions asked. He'd have 60 goals and 130 points -- the highest point total since lemieux in 95'

That is true.

If we go by the true meaning of the Trophy, no one but Miller or Bryz should even be mentioned basically.

If we go by it with the standard of today, OV would most likely get it or Miller.

General Managers vote for the Vezina. Miller is the cream of the East, so he will pick up the Vezina votes of the GMs from the EC, whereas out west they have Bryzgalov, Nabokov, Kiprusoff, and Luongo, who will all probably split the votes of the WC GMs. So, unless Miller tanks in the next couple of weeks I think he is a lock for the Vezina.

However, in spite of the Olympic glow, I don't see the hockey writers picking Miller (they vote on the Hart). Ovie is still a favorite with the press.

Your right about him being in the top 5 but he has looked like shit this year. He's been pull I think 7 times this year.
