Golisano bought the team for around $60 million, and the asking price is $175 million? Sell, Tom, Sell!! I don't see why this won't happen, if Pegula is really interested... The guy is a billionaire with strong hockey ties, so I don't see why any of the owners would object to this sale.

If I turned on NHLN and heard "Sabres have new ownership and heads are a'rollin' in the B-Low!" I would be a very happy man.

Quinn says he currently retains his ownership stake, and told News 4 Sports "I'll get out when Tom gets out."

No surprise really.
Larry Quinn is in a spot unwelcomed by anyone. He has done what he thought was best with the Sabres, and helped keeped them here in Buffalo. He meddled too much with the team, but I believe his ego led him in that direction.
The failure of the Canal Project in downtown Buffalo is another slap in his face.
The moment Bass Pro walked away, it was done down there.

Quinn isn't finding success in attempting to rebuild downtown Buffalo. And its become a hibitual problem.
This guy is still useful for light to medium development, but his days as a population center architect are clearly done.

Somebody should crawl through the ducts at HSBC Arena, find where Quinn's office is, and loudly whisper "Get Out!" through the vent. Then he'll think the place is haunted and take off...

I don't think that's true at all. There are still plenty of things that can develop the waterfront, I think Bass Pro finally cutting ties with the whole project is a blessing in disguise actually.

I understand, and sure there is plenty that "may" develop down there. But Unique stores like Bass Pro or a Cabella's are really cornerstones of great regions.
The plus side of them being downtown was actually 2 fold. It projected a very positive image on an international scale of Buffalo's aquatic prowess for sportsman enthusiasts. This draws business from all over to the downtown area.
The second is its location. Being so West of th overall regions buildout leaves the South, Southeastern side of the region for a secondary store of this caliber. One geared towards the hunting man. A Cabella's in any community along the 90 corridor south of the Galleria Mall, say OP or East Aurora would be another huge selling point for the great outdoors for the region, especially given the amount of hunters that transcend on the southerntier year after year and with the NY/Penn state line so close, there is some fantastic hunting down there.

The point is, the Buffalo-Niagara region is a boon for outdoor sportsmen in both the Aquatic and Hunting arenas.
Its one of the many hidden gems about the region that don't need a real boost to create economic windfall, they sell themselves.

A Cabellas or Bass Pro in the area would be a good idea. We just didn't have to give away the store to get it. I'm glad the deal fell apart.

No offense, but all he did was cite the same Forbes report that you did. Didn't really rip you off.

I wish I was a rich billionaire and could throw 175 million dollars around to buy a hockey team.

Now how to become a rich billionaire quickly?????

Correct if I'm wrong here Squanto, but weren't they looking for 35 million in an incentives package?
If thats the case, it would have been money wisely spent given just how well those nitch stores do and how well the surrounding areas do when they open their doors.
I do also agree there needs to be sanity when dealing with businesses, but this type of business should have had an exception made given its reputation.

Been to both, and nation wide.
They are about equal as far as their approach to showmanship.
Cabellas offers more in the way of products though.
I bought my colt 1911 model 45 hand gun at the Cabellas in Utah back in 06. Very nice store and it sat up on the ridge that seperated Salt Lake City from the Orem/Provo area. Nicely done by them, garnering both markets.
But when I asked why out of sight of SLC, the guy behind the counter told me SLC wouldn't let them build inside the city, something about the Mormons and control of the and down by the Lake.

Otherwise, they would have built in downtown Salt Lake City.

we have both a cabelas and a bass pro. bass pro is eh... cabelas has 4 or 5 hotels surrounding the grounds. people drive out, and stay in a hotel because its not a few hours they shop for, its a weekend.

bass pro is for spending a few hours in an afternoon. cabelas is Serious Business.
