A lot of assuming going on here about this potential sale being a positive for the team. Just want to stay realistic here and not get myself excited about something that never happens or that doesn't meet my high expectations. So I'm trying to stay grounded about this rumor.

I think the fact that it was reported by a legitimate reporter by a legitimate hockey publication gives it more weight than just a rumor.

In other news, Bulldog is really talking himself into a corner today. He's basically admitted that he's shilled the company line for the Sabres in the past because LQ asked him to say something, and he did because he trusted LQ.

I wish he'd go back to delivering pizzas.

Who is Bulldog again? I'm getting confused with all those twitterers, bloggers and journalists. Hard to tell who is legit and who is just fishing for attention.

A bingo! If it was just to be spelled off as yet another rumor as LQ insists has happened in the past with this team, why all the coverage on a topic that is supposed to be a non issue?

I smell something cooking…

He's on WGR550, the local sports talk station.

He admitted that on more than one occasion, LQ told him a rumor wasn't true, and asked him to say that it wasn't true on the air. He then said that he did it because he trusted LQ.

This is just bullshit. He did no research, investigated nothing, and just parroted the Sabres company line that he was given. Completely pathetic.

Some interesting comments from Yahoo Sports:

Quote:
"Obviously, nothing is official until the Sabres make it so. But there's enough smoke here, especially in this Buffalo News report, to assume the team is in play and Pegula's making a play for it. Which would be great news, seeing as how he's energetic and filthy rich. Oh, the dreams of a Sabres fan today: Keeping their own free agents! Making big-ticket moves at the trade deadline! (Oh, wait: Regier's still there. Nevermind.)"

And this was a curious statemnt:

Quote:
"Until it's confirmed, let's all take a step back and wonder why the Buffalo Sabres might sell for $10 million less than what the NHL was asking on the high end from Ice Edge for the Phoenix Coyotes"

I think it's BAD news for Darcy that not just Buffalo people view him as timid. Also, I don't know what to make of the "cheaper than Phoenix" comment.

Phoenix is a bigger market than Buffalo, hockey or not. Simple as that.

Bigger market, yes.

Bigger hockey market, no.

We're talking about the sale of a hockey team. The hockey market can't be just discarded.

It certainly has something to do with it, not to mention the amount of debt they're in. The Sabres are in a much different situation than the Coyotes as well. Where as BTG would be selling the Sabres for profit, the NHL is selling Phoenix to get their money back. That might cost more than the profit.

This from Forbes.com:

http://blogs.forbes.com/kurtbadenhausen ... elsections

If Paychex founder Golisano gets $150 million for the Sabres it would represent a decent price as the market is currently flooded with NHL teams for sale. At least 7 franchises are on the block including the Atlanta Thrashers, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, Phoenix Coyotes and St. Louis Blues. None of these are elite NHL teams financially and only the Stars and Kings can expect to attract bids of more than $200 million.

Consider the recent sale of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Former Fidelity Magellan fund manager Jeffrey Vinik bought the team in March for the cut-rate price of $93 million from Oren Koules and Len Barrie. It was $113 million less than Barrie and Koules paid just 2 years earlier. The fire sale came as a result of poor play on the ice, mounting financial losses, bickering in the owners suite and a $100 million debt burden.

Yea, The Hurricanes are only selling off a minority stake for 110 million or something, it's like 49% I think last I remember.

But TG's shares must be 150 million then, because how much does LQ own? Wasn't it like 15% of the team since TG owns something like 60-70% of the team?

I'm not sure though. Anyone know those figures?

Well. This was good news to log on to see. I'm tentatively excited.

Hahaha, yea he's still the majority owner or will be if anyone steps up and buys the Canes. If a bank would let me loan that much out, I would do it haha. I would be the poorest minority hockey owner out there.

I'd be able to pay back 100 million in no time if the team turns profits.

lol...listen to Miller's interview about it. He doesn't believe that the Sabres are going to be sold for $150 million.

Ken Campbell from THN has posted a blog expanding on the initial brief report.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/3 ... -sale.html

Quote:
A source with knowledge of the dealings told THN.com the announcement of the Sabres sale is expected sometime in late December or early January. The fact the Sabres are downplaying the report has to do with semantics. In fact, the source also said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is expected to introduce Pegula to the owners at the Dec. 6-7 board of governors meetings in Palm Beach, Fla.
